The vibrant coastal town of Morondava is the principal town on the central part of Madagascar's West Coast. Visitors to Morondava are able to take a walk and outrigger canoe ride to traditional fishing villages to meet some locals as well as spend time relaxing on the lovely beach. Heading North from the coastal town, as visitors pass through the famous Avenue of the Baobabs, the landscapes change to open savannah studded with ubiquitous baobab trees before suddenly transforming into the dense mass of the Kirindy Forest Reserve. The park is widely regarded as one of the best spots in Madagascar to see the iconic fossa, the island’s largest predator as well as a variety of diurnal and nocturnal lemurs. Western Madagascar is also where you will find Bekopaka, the access point to the stunning Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park. The area is accessed either via a 10-hour drive from Morondava, including crossing two rivers by ferry, or via private charter flight from Antananarivo.
